AI agent
An AI agent is software that handles a task end to end: reading, looking things up in your systems, drafting and acting, with a human checking the sensitive steps.
The difference from a chatbot: a chatbot answers, an agent acts. An agent gets a goal (answer this quote request), may look into agreed systems (stock, price list, CRM) and delivers a result (a quote ready to send). Which steps it may finish on its own and which a human approves is set in advance.
For a company an agent is worth most on recurring work with clear rules: triaging mail, preparing quotes, retyping orders, compiling reports. There it replaces hours of manual work without giving up control.
