Agentic workflow
An agentic workflow is a process in which one or more AI agents plan and carry out the steps themselves, instead of a fixed script that prescribes every step.
Classic automation is a row of dominoes: if A, then B, then C. As soon as the input deviates, it stops. In an agentic workflow the agent gets the goal and the limits, and picks the route per situation: look up the customer first, then check stock, then draft a proposal, or ask a question back when something is missing.
That makes it suitable for work that is never exactly the same, such as incoming mail or free-text requests. The guardrails stay: which systems the agent may use, what it may send on its own and where a human reviews.
