Byte8 makes it possible to do more with the same people. That thinking is why we built the Hub: our own ERP, in production for years, carrying the daily work of dozens of people. We keep leaning further into AI to improve and to speed things up, for ourselves and for the people who use it. To make that acceleration happen, we want experienced developers.
AI is built in to speed things up. Looking things up, retyping and double-checking we take off your hands. We digitise processes and make them simpler. That saves time, and it makes the work more enjoyable. That is how we build it for our customers, and how we work ourselves.
The Hub is our own ERP for trading companies. Quotes, orders, purchasing, stock, warehouse, deliveries, invoices, payments and all customer communication. One or several online sales channels, integrations with e-commerce and accounting packages, and connections that stay in step around the clock.
Now we are turning the Hub into a product for more companies still. Custom branded, with the integrations each one needs. And across every process we let AI show up more, helping and steering. You build from the data model to the screen someone actually uses. Not a corner of a bigger whole. So we want developers who take user experience as seriously as their code, and who will put AI anywhere it adds value.
AI may build anything. You stay in control.
We put AI to work every day, with whichever tools fit best and all kinds of models and systems. You decide how, what and where you use it. And you set the direction: first a plan, then a spec, then agents that pull it apart, and only then code. And of course you have it all tested and documented.
The routine work goes to the agents. That leaves you time for the questions and problems that really matter. Sometimes that is a bug that crept in or a process that stalled, but more often a new challenge or a new addition to our system.
Knowledge and experience. AI as the driver.
This is what we want
- You have years of (backend) experience. Data models, queries, transactions, tests. Domain-driven programming and clean code principles are second nature. You have built systems companies genuinely ran on.
- You make AI your own. You build with it, you follow what is coming, and you want everyone using it. Here that is a hard requirement.
- You get to the bottom of a domain. You ask the question behind the question and you speak up when a premise is wrong. Even after it has been decided.
- Dutch and English. You speak and write Dutch fluently. You read and write English at a professional level.
Nice to have
- Our stack. PHP 8.5, Laravel 13, Inertia, React 19, Tailwind 4 and PostgreSQL. A different background? No problem. Your experience and affinity weigh heavier.
- DDD. We work domain-driven and release nothing without a fully green test suite. If that is what you are used to, you are up to speed here within a week.
- ERP or e-commerce. Orders, invoices, stock, integrations. Know that world and you spot the complexity and the likely pitfalls immediately.
- Agents and AI tooling. You have built with AI, work with agents daily, or have put AI to use some other way. We will get you going with how we work, and we are glad to learn from you too.
Good to know
Almelo. You are mostly in the office, because in our organisation and in this domain working side by side is fastest. 32 to 40 hours, part-time and partly remote are negotiable.
You also work for Fenceweb, the company where the Hub started. Part of your work is operational challenges and additions to the Hub for Fenceweb, which every other party benefits from. The other part is genuinely for byte8 and leans further into AI and acceleration.
We are straightforward about money. We ask what you expect and tell you straight away whether that is workable. We do not haggle and we do not want mismatched expectations.
