What does an AI agent cost in 2026? Honest pricing and payback time

An AI agent costs between 3,000 and 25,000 euros in 2026, depending on integrations and complexity. See the price factors, monthly costs and a simple payback calculation.

An AI agent costs roughly between 3,000 and 25,000 euros in 2026, one-off. The range is wide because the price depends mostly on one thing: how many systems the agent needs to read and operate. On top of that you pay a small monthly amount to keep it running. Here is the honest breakdown, without "request a quote" fog.

The price structure in one table

Type of agentWhat it doesOne-offPer month
Simple agentOne task, one system: answering email from your knowledge base3,000 to 8,00075 to 200
Agent with integrationsReads and writes in your CRM, accounting or inventory, human approves8,000 to 25,000150 to 400
Multiple agents on one platformA team of agents handling quotes, orders and service togetherfrom 25,000300 to 800

The monthly costs cover three things: running the software (hosting), the AI model that charges per use (tokens), and monitoring so you can see what the agent does.

What really drives the price

  • Integrations. An agent that only talks is cheap. An agent that works inside your CRM, accounting and planning needs connections, and that is the real engineering.
  • Error tolerance. May the agent send things itself, or does it stage everything for review? The more it may do autonomously, the more guardrails it needs.
  • Knowledge. An agent is only as good as the knowledge it gets. Structured data saves build time, a pile of loose PDFs costs build time.
  • Volume. A hundred emails a day needs a different setup than ten.

The calculation that matters: payback time

Say an agent takes over 5 hours of work per week at an internal rate of 45 euros. That is 11,700 euros per year. A 10,000 euro agent with 200 euros in monthly costs pays for itself in about 12 months, and every year after that is profit. If it takes over 15 hours a week, you are looking at roughly 4 months.

Do not calculate what an agent costs. Calculate what a lost hour costs.

Why byte8 can start from 888 euros

The ranges above are market rates for agents built from scratch. At byte8 the entry point is lower: we build a first AI agent from 888 euros one-time, plus 88 euros per month for hosting and ongoing improvement, cancellable from month 3. We can do that because we do not start from zero: our agents run on our own platform, where the integrations, guardrails and monitoring are already in place. You pay for your task, not for the foundation. If the agent grows more complex (multiple systems, high volumes), the cost grows with it towards the rates above, and we quote that transparently up front.

What to check in any proposal

  • Does it name a concrete task, or just an "AI solution"? A good partner states which task the agent takes over and when it goes live.
  • Are the monthly costs spelled out? Tokens and hosting belong on the table, not in the fine print.
  • Is there a human in control for sensitive actions?
  • Can you start small? The best first agent is the smallest one that pays back fastest.

Start small, know for sure

Not sure which task pays back first? That is what the AI Scan is for: in one afternoon we map at least eight opportunities, calculation included, for 888 euros which we offset against a follow-up. Also read what an AI agent actually is or see our AI agents service.
